Mystical Warrior by Janet Chapman

If you all remember in my review
of Janet’s last book Dragon Warrior I mentioned that I was looking forward to
the release the next book in the Moonlight Bay series. Well here it is Mystical
Warrior and it didn’t disappoint. The first two books in this spinoff series is
Moonlight Warrior and Dragon Warrior, Mystical Warrior is the third book and I
have to start with the cover, I love the cover and I use it as a visual at
times as I read and all I’m going to say is look at his arm, it’s like a clue
and it is discussed near the end of the book.

So let’s meet Trace, yes, I know
we met him in the last book but we’re about to really get to know him. Let’s
just say Trace is a man’s man, he’s rough and ready, honorable and let’s just
say wait until you see his basement!!! Ah, a tease, I know but Trace is definitely
one of the good guys I’d want protecting me in the face of unknown mystical
danger. Trace likes/wants to be left alone and doesn’t want to be saddled with
a female, he has been hurt and used in the past by a woman, but that is just
what happens when he is cajoled to take in a renter. Let’s just say the fear of
being turned into a toad has him saying yes when all he wants is to say is hell
no at the top of his lungs.

Fiona Gregor lived and died in 11th
century at the mercy of men, so it’s no wonder she panics or hides when any get
close to her personal space. After Fiona died she was turned into a red-tailed
hawk and helped her family by watching over them for centuries when she is
given a gift of a second chance at life, unwillingly and terrifying forced on
her again at the hands of a man. Now she must learn how to survive in the here
and now while longing to become a mother without having a man in her life to
muck it up.

I loved this book and if I could
I’d send everyone a copy for their keeper shelf. I love how the characters are
developed and how they interact with each other.  I felt what they felt, weather it was fear or
the pain of skunk spray. I thought Janet did a really good job with Fiona and
her fear of men when she ended up buying a dog. One of my favorite scenes of
the book involves some baby skunks that Fiona rescues and takes in.

Mac Oceanus features prominently in this book
too which set’s sets up his book quite nicely and I canna wait for it to come
out in Feb 2012. .  I spoke to Janet at
RWA in New York City and she showed me the cover of the next book which will be
a spinoff to a new series Spellbound Falls and will feature Mac, yes, I said
the mysterious Mac Oceanus, whet your appetite…I hope so, and the cover is gorgeous.

Mystical Warrior Back Book  Blurb:

An eleventh-century lass with a
stubborn streak unleashes the red-hot hero inside her modern lover in
bestselling author Janet Chapman’s irresistible new Moonlight Bay adventure.

Trace Huntsman’s peaceful life
has headed to hell in a handbasket ever since stunningly beautiful Fiona Gregor
moved into the vacant apartment above his house. Kidnapped centuries earlier
and transformed into a red-tailed hawk, Fiona is human once more and must learn
how to be a modern woman. But damned if Trace is going to be the one to teach
her. Not when her mere presence ignites a fiery passion deep within his
cautious heart.

Fiona longs to overcome the
painful memories of her tragic past—to let down her guard and become a mother
again. But so far her handsome landlord is not exactly thrilled with the stray
animals—and suitors—that keep following her home. When the wizard Maximilian Oceanus
shows up, Trace reaches the end of his rope. Weird things happen when Mac is
around—raging storms, snarling demons—but this time, Midnight Bay is at the
center of a fierce battle, and Fiona is the primary target. Only Trace can save
her, but first, the lovers must set aside their fears…and open up their heats.
