Welcome to the second day of my Almost Heaven West Virginia Blog Bash.
Welcome to all my followers and visitors, I am having a month-long celebration in my husbands honor. My husband Denny is retiring from the Navy after serving for 24 years. We are packing up one last time and moving back to his home state of Wild Wonderful West Virginia. Each post will start off with a picture to showcase West Virginia. Everyday their will be a prize up for grabs and at the end we’ll be giving away some chocolate.
Please follow the rules posted at the end of each post to enter the daily contests and remember you don’t have to subscribe to win but I hope you decide to stick around. Also any post that contain super erotic material will carry the warning label so as not to shock or offend anyone upon opening.
Today is all about Karen Marie Moning or KMM as her Moning Maniacs call her. Karen couldn’t join us as she is very busy writing. I love Karen’s Highlander books and if I had read them while pregnant I would have named my boys Drustan and Dageus. How I love my Mackeltar’s descendants of ancient Druids essential to the Fae Queen to maintain the weil between the human and Fae worlds.
Then we have the Fever series which is so addictive with Mac and Barrons…goodness who wouldn’t crawl after Barrons.
“My philosophy is pretty simple-any day nobody’s trying to kill me is a good day in my book. I haven’t had many good days lately.”
MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.
Or so she thinks… until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae…
I used to be your everyday, average girl but all that changed one night in Dublin, when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets…
In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million year old book of deadly black magic, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by people she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two dangerous and powerful men, V’lane, a lethal Fae prince and the mysterious Jericho Barrons.
He calls me his Queen of the Night. I’d die for him. I’d kill for him, too.
When Mac receives a page torn from her dead sister’s journal, she is stunned by Alina’s words. Mac knows her sister’s killer is near. The sidhe-seer is on the hunt: for answers, for revenge. And for an ancient book of magic so twisted and dark that it corrupts anyone who touches it.
They may have stolen my past but I will never let them take my future.
When the walls between Man and Fae come crashing down, freeing the immortal Unseelie from their icy prison, Mac is caught in a deadly trap. Trapped and tortured by the Fae Lord Master, Mac has no memory of who or what she is: the only sidhe-seer alive that can track the Sinsar Dubh, a book of black magic that holds the key to controlling both worlds.
and the much awaited Shadowfever
“Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes it’s good.”
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.
Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals that have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.
What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief, while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh–a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King that contains the power to create and destroy worlds.
There are also two soundtracks for the fever series that Karen’s husband Neil did, Bloodrush and Shadowsong.
Here are some pictures I took at Karen’s first FeverCon 2010.
This is my version of the MacHalo that I called D Lo because Dani moved so fast she needed lots of light to keep the shades at bay.
Here is what Karen has coming up.

I love KMM. She had me hooked with her very first book. I love her urban fantasy series. (I’m half Irish, and love Mac and the whole cast). But her Highlander series…yum men in kilts double yum.
I love her books soo much, that when they come out in hardback first, I request my library stock the book. That way I can read it as soon as it is available, then buy the paperback when it comes out and keep my collection in complete.

Good Morning….I think my favorite book will always be Adam Black’s story, SPELL OF THE HIGHLANDER. I always had a soft spot for him, even when he was getting under everyone’s skin. The Fever series was one of the most talked about series in my bookstore. Each book left you with such a cliffhanger ending, and you had to wait for awhile until the next release, so in order to pacify us we would chat for hours discussing the many scenarios. SHADOWFEVER was a surprise with its twist, and one that I never saw coming.
Also, I’m so glad that you mentioned the music, too! I have one of the cd’s….Bloodrush, and it’s fantastic! I actually gave one away at our Romance Readers Group, and you should have heard the screaming for joy…. LOL!

Luckily for me I was able to read all the current Fever books in a row. No telling how disgruntled I would have been if I had to wait between books. I was hooked from the beginning…world building, realistic behavior on Mac’s part, the humbling growth she made as she realized what and where she was, the compelling mystery of Barron (my favorite from the start). Sigh…now I will go on to the Highlanders with a renewed interest since I know of the connection to Fever. Excellent writing, KMM. Write on and on and on.

You are in for a treat when you read the Highlanders. Karen did such a great job world building and those ckiff hangers had many people screaming for the next book.

Thanks Victoria for stopping in. The Fever series is very addictive and the Mackeltars are in the new series but I would read the Highlanders first before the fever series but it’s not a neccesity to do so, just background stuff, oh and hunky highlanders.

So after 24 years with the Navy – where was the best place that you were stationed? By the way, thank your hubby for his service. We were in Mobile, AL and toured the battleship Alabama in July… I now know why all those sailors were so skinny in those photos of WWII… Hot doesn’t begin to describe it!

My husband is in a submarine and he is in the Sonar Shack and it’s kept at about 50 -55 degrees. When we got married my husband had a very nice skin tone, very tan as he has some Iroquis in him and after he went out for the first time he came back a white man….that’s a downfall of no sunlight for almost six months at a time.Thnak you I’ll pass it along to Denny. My favorite place for weather and activities was San Diego but the best place for senic beauty is West Virginia and Idaho. The best place I’ve ever lived is where I’m at now Westerly, Rhode Island, I love it here and if I could stay I would. I’ve lived here 9 years and there’s not been any murders and the only bad crime was two bank robberies 5 years apart.

Thanks… sorry for the repeat question on your 3rd day… West Virginia is a wonderful place — my college geology class spent some time there in the 70’s…I think we all broke into John Denver’s signature song as we crossed into the state!!

How I found KMM – We were living in Ohio, and a woman hubby use to work with told him to have his wife try Karen Marie Monings. Usually I go to the flea market with new authors so I’m not out of money. Could find NONE. So my friend Keeshe went for Christmas one year and got me nearly all the Highlander books. Yes it was a Monings Christmas that year.
Totally gobbled them up and got the ones I needed. Now I am WAY behind her FEver books. Except for the very last Fever book I have the two previous ones in my TBR pile.
Favs.. The Dark Highlander… that towel scene * waves herself *

I’ve read the first Fever book because a friend loaned it to me. I believe I read the next one after that too (again friend loaned the book to me). I have Faefever and Dreamfever in my to be read list. Don’t have the last one.
Yeah. Keeshe knows my tastes. She was for a time all I had to talk to about books. Plus, any extras I have she gets.
What’s neat was, when I was entering my book in a database I was trial testing for a friend (awesome database) I discovered I had two copies of KMM’s first highlander book. I kept the original cover one. Keeshe took the other book for her friend.

I love Karen’s Highlanders Series…loved, loved, loved it. Shadowfever caught me by surprise and I wasn’t sure what to think. I was expecting more romance and I hadn’t been introduced to Urban Fantasy yet. I kept reading and still wasn’t sure. I finished the series so I could know the end and sold my copies of the fever series. Not my cup of coffee, sorry. My favorite of the highlanders was Adam Black but the twins Drustan and Dageus were pretty great too! I’ll get her future Dani books from the library and not invest. glittergirl54 at ymail dot com

Karen C ~ You can collect her older highlanders from the used bookstores in your area. You might have to hunt for a bit as they are very popular. The Fever series will probably be impossible to find used. People tend to be manic over that one. Not me, I’d have sent you mine if I hadn’t already recycled them at my local used bookstore…

What can I say except that KMM’s Highlander series hooked me from book 1.
Loved every single Highlander but Dageus is my favorite…yum… 🙂 Also Adam Black. Oh heck I loved them all. What an amazing series. That’s what hooked me on Scotland along with Sue Ellen Welfonder’s Highlanders. KMM is an Author I will always buy her books. If I can’t afford it I go to my library.
Thanks for this great opportunity.

There’s something I would have asked her but it would be best if I e-mail anyway. Maybe when she’s not so busy. I love the West (by God) VA picture.
