Welcome to the twenty-sixth day of my Almost Heaven West Virginia Blog Bash.

From Wicipedia:

Grave Creek Mound is the largest conical type of any of the mound builder structures. Construction of the mound took place in successive stages from about 250-150 B.C., as indicated by the multiple burials at different levels within the structures. In 1838, road engineers measured its height at 69 feet (21 m) and its base as 295 feet (90 m). Originally a moat of about 40 feet (12 m) in width and five feet in depth, with one causeway across it, encircled the mound. Inside the mound, archeological researchers discovered Adena Hopewell remains and ornaments, along with a small sandstone tablet. The authenticity of the tablet and the meaning of its inscription have become quite controversial.

Grave Creek mound was created during the Woodland time period (late Adena Period around 1000 B.C. to about 1 A.D.) The people who lived in West Virginia during this time are among those groups classified as Mound Builders. This particular mound was built in successive stages over a period of a hundred years.

The Grave Creek Mound was believed first seen by a European American when Joseph Tomlinson and his brother built a log cabin at Grave Creek Flats in 1770. Two years later, Joseph built a cabin 300 feet (91 m) from the mound for his family.[3] This was 33 years before Lewis & Clark wrote about the mound in their journals; they saw it on their way to St. Louis to prepare for their expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase.[4][5]

In the nineteenth century, amateurs dug into the mound, finding burial vaults. They took many of the artifacts. The mound was saved from demolition for development in 1908 by local women of the Wheeling Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, who raised funds to acquire an option on the property. In 1909 the state of West Virginia purchased the site for preservation.[6] It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

I couldn’t be happier today than to introduce you to a wonderful author and friend Sylvia Day, doesn’t she have a great smile?

Bio: …the national bestselling, award-winning author of over a dozen novels  written across multiple sub-genres — contemporary, fantasy, historical,  futuristic, science fiction, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and  urban fantasy — under multiple pen names: three!A wife and  mother of two, she is a former Russian linguist for the U.S. Army  Military Intelligence.

Sylvia is a lifelong California resident who loves to travel. Her  adventures have taken her to Japan, Holland, Germany, France, Mexico,  Jamaica, and all over the United States. Born in Los Angeles, she grew  up in Orange County (the O.C.), and later lived in Monterey, Oceanside,  and the Temecula Valley.

She is a Japanese-American who enjoys the  many Japanese cultural events in Southern California as well as frequent  family jaunts to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Sea World. Her  childhood career aspirations were few — become a dolphin trainer at Sea  World or a bestselling novelist. Obviously, the dolphin trainer career  took a back seat.

A year after she first sat down at the keyboard, Sylvia sold her  first book to Kensington Brava and three years later–to the day–she sold  her 15-17th single title books. In addition to her novels, she’s  written numerous novellas and short stories for both print and  electronic-original release. Sylvia’s stories have been called  “wonderful and passionate” by WNBC.com and “wickedly entertaining” by Booklist.  Her work has been translated into Russian, Japanese, Portuguese, Czech,  German, Italian, and Thai. She’s been honored with the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice award, the EPPIE award, and the National Readers’  Choice Award, as well as multiple nominations for Romance Writers of  America’s prestigious RITA® Award of Excellence.

Sylvia travels extensively in conjunction with various speaking  engagements. In addition to presenting workshops before writing groups  around the country, she is a frequent panelist at events such as the Romantic Times Convention, Romance Writers of America’s National  Convention, and Comic-Con.

I first met Sylvia online at WickedWriters yahoo group then I met her in person twice at RWA’s and this last year I was so happy to see her at RomCon, it was fun working with her on her goodie bags and events, ah yes the perks of being a volunteer. But she really is a nice lady in person and so interesting to talk to.

Sylvia has a few books coming out this year so let’s take a peek shall we?????

Black Magic Woman Featured in the anthology, Alluring Tales: Night Moves. (Paranormal)

Warlock Max Westin and his beloved familiar, Victoria St. John, have weathered opposition from the High Council and a near-deadly encounter with the Triumvirate. Through it all their bond has grown, with Victoria thriving under the firm hand of her adoring master.

But Max has made his share of enemies over the course of his work as a Hunter of rogues and his latest hunt pits him against two who’ve joined forces. Steeped in black magic, they strike at Max through Victoria, awakening her dominant nature and testing the bonds that make Max the most prized of Hunters.

Will the switch unravel the bond between warlock and familiar? Or will they find an untapped reserve of power that will take them beyond the limits of magic, desire, and control?

Black Magic Woman will release as a digital novella, then later in print with the other Alluring Tales: Night Moves stories.

In Lustfully Ever After, classic fairy tales are reimagined for an adult audience with twists (and kinks) to keep readers entertained. In Michelle Augello-Page’s romantically charged BDSM tale “Wolf Moon,” Little Red Riding Hood is the big bad wolf, while Kristina Lloyd rewrites “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” as a scorching hot MFM threesome in “The Shoes That Were Danced to Pieces.” Shanna Germain’s “Mirror Mirror” shows the sensual Sapphic side of Snow White’s stepmother and Andrea Dale pens a contemporary version of “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” in the poignantly erotic “Steadfast.”

This delightful collection of fairy tales will lead you down a magical path into forbidden romance and erotic love. You won’t need those bread crumbs to find your way home—for home is where the heart is and the authors of Lustfully Ever After know your heart’s most wicked and secret desires.

A Hunger So Wild

Sylvia Day draws us back into the shadows of a seductive underworld where lycans, vampires and angels vie for supremacy…

Elijah Reynolds is the most dominant of lycans, a rare Alpha whose skill on the hunt is surpassed only by his primal sexuality. When the lycans revolt due to the iron fist of angelic rule, he steps into command, becoming both enemy and coveted ally in the conflict between vampires and angels.

Vashti is the second most powerful vampire in the world, a lethal beauty with a path of devastation in her wake. Tasked with proposing an alliance between vampires and the lycans who killed her mate, Vash approaches Elijah, whose need to avenge a friend demands Vash’s death even as his passion demands her surrender.

Soon, their enmity erodes beneath an all-consuming desire. Elijah has never encountered a woman whose warrior spirit and fierce sexual appetite rivals his own, while Vash is faced with the one man strong enough to be her equal. But as war looms, each must decide where their loyalty lies–with their own kind or with the enemy lover they can no longer live without.

Three Novellas of Erotic Capture

Allow yourself to imagine the man behind the dark sunglasses. Hear the purr of his zipper as he lowers it, then reaches for the shiny metal hanging from his black leather belt. It’s futile to resist arrest. Give yourself up to the fantasy. Besides, he thinks you’re so hot in handcuffs…

Arresting Desire by Shayla Black FBI Agent Jon Bocelli never stopped wanting beautiful professor Lucia DiStefano. She’s interested in taking her first lover, and he intends to be that man. When her past puts her life in danger, Jon risks everything to save her and prove this fling is forever.

On Fire by Sylvia Day When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron investigates a series of arson attacks in a seaside town, the biggest blast of heat comes from sexy fire inspector Darcy Michaels—until their scorching after-hours affair is compromised by a secret from Darcy’s past.

The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker Mica Greer and her former lover, ex-FBI agent Colby Mathis once shared an intimate past and a powerful psychic gift. Now, they’ve been reunited by a bizarre series of murders—and an electrifying passion that could put them both in jeopardy.

Now, let’s take a look at her current releases:

A Touch of Crimson

Can a love that transcends death survive a war between angels, vampires, and lycans?

An angel with immense power and insatiable desire, Adrian Mitchell leads an elite Special Ops unit of the seraphim. His task is to punish the Fallen–angels who have become vampires–and command a restless pack of indentured lycans.

But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals–losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly two hundred years, he has found her: Shadoe, her soul once more inhabiting a new body that doesn’t remember him. This time he won’t let her go.

With no memory of her past as Shadoe, Lindsay Gibson knows only that she can’t help being fiercely attracted to the smoldering, seductive male who crosses her path. Swept into a dangerous world of tumultuous passion and preternatural conflict, Lindsay is soon caught between her angel lover, her vampire father, and a full-blown lycan revolt. There’s more at stake than her love and her life–she could lose her very soul…

Men Out of Uniform

Featuring Sylvia’s novella, Taking the Heat

The hottest thing about a man in uniform is imagining him out of it…

They may enforce the rules, but when men in uniform are off duty and under the covers, they’re experts at breaking them. In this searingly sexy anthology, popular authors Maya Banks, Sylvia Day, and Karin Tabke present men in uniform–unzipped…

In Maya Banks‘s Soul Possession, Jessie spends a hot night with two sexy-as-sin detectives, only to be accused of murder the very next day. But when Jessie becomes the target of a serial killer, her two detectives will risk everything to have her back in their arms–and in their bed…

It’s time for protected witness Layla Creed to come out of hiding and take the stand in Taking the Heat by Sylvia Day. Layla has only three days to reconnect with federal marshal Brian Simmons–and slake the white-hot lust that has simmered between them for years…

Karin Tabke‘s Wanted follows the X-rated exploits of bad-boy cop Colin Daniels and the soon-to-be-ex-wife of a mob boss. He’s been hired to guard her body, but it drives him to distraction instead, putting his career–and his life–on the line…

Seven Years to Sin

The longer the resistance…

Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, proper Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a licentious scene no innocent young miss could imagine. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she’d held her silence regarding scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and walked down the aisle as expected. But through years of serene, unremarkable marriage, Caulfield’s image remained burned into her imagination, fueling very illicit dreams…

…the sweeter the reward

Alistair ran far from the temptation of the prim debutante with the fire of passion in her eyes–all the way to the West Indies. As a successful merchant, he has little in common with the rakehell youth she knew. But when newly widowed Jessica steps aboard his ship for a transatlantic passage, seven years’ worth of denied pleasures are held in check by nothing more than a few layers of silk–and the certainty that surrender will consume them both…

The next book was the book I picked as my first read for 2011, the cover is gorgeous, doesn’t he look like a little older Keanu Reeves????

I love this cover, Eliza looks lovely in the green gown, I think it accents her hair just right with the gold on green and I love the bodice. Jasper looks so …sigh…. in his open shirt, the  hand on her hip and the one on her neck slightly possessive. I’d love to have the backdrop in my future castle. See I told you all I look as covers as art.

Pride and Pleasure

Wealth has its dangers…

There are disadvantages to being an heiress, as Eliza Martin knows well. Fortune hunters flock to her, acquaintances lie and pander, and lately, someone is engineering “accidents” to propel her to the altar. But Eliza will not be bullied, and she will get to the bottom of this plot. All she needs is a man to infiltrate her assemblage of suitors and find the culprit. Someone not easily noticed; a proficient dancer, quiet, and even-tempered.

…so do certain men

Thief-taker Jasper Bond is entirely too large, too handsome, and too dangerous. Who would believe that an intellectual like Eliza would be seduced by a man of action? But the combination of her stubbornness and the mystery makes the case one Jasper can’t resist. Client satisfaction is a point of pride and it’s his pleasure to prove he’s just the man she needs after all…

I absolutely loved this book, if you missed it I say go find it and read it.

I’ve also read The Stranger I Married, another good book.

The Stranger I Married

Lady Pelham could not have designed a husband more suited to her  needs. The Marquess of Grayson is a dear and enchanting friend and an  unrepentant ladies’ man. Their union is solid; their hearts safe from  one another. But every marriage has its surprises…

They were together for all the wrong reasons…

They are London’s most scandalous couple. Isabel, Lady Pelham, and Gerard Faulkner, Marquess of Grayson, are well matched in all  things–their lusty appetites, constant paramours, wicked wits,  provocative reputations, and their absolute refusal ever to ruin their  marriage of convenience by falling in love with one another. Isabel knows such a charming  rake will never appeal to her guarded heart, nor will she sway his  philandering one. It is a most agreeable sham…until a shocking turn of  events sends Gerard from her side.

Now, four years later, Gerard has come home to Isabel. But the  carefree, boyish rogue who left has been replaced by a brooding,  powerful, irresistible man who is determined to seduce his way into her  affections. Gone is the devil-may-care companion who shared her  friendship and nothing more, and in his place is temptation itself…a  husband who desires Isabel body and soul and who will stop at nothing to  win her love. No, this is not at all the man she had married. But he is  the man who might finally steal her heart…

One of the first stories of Sylvia’s that I read was under one of her pen names Livia Dare, it was a sy-fi and it opened the sy-fi world to me as I hadn’t read it previously. She also writes under SJ Day.

I’d love to see more stories like this made into a series.

In The Flesh

An infamous beauty. A daring warrior…

For five years, Sapphire has been the King of Sari’s most treasured concubine. Independent at last, she refuses to put herself in anyone’s control again. But now another’s meddling has led her into the path of proud, arrogant Wulfric, Crown Prince of the rival kingdom of D’Ashier… a man who is dangerous to her in every way.

…and a seduction that could destroy them both.

The daughter of Wulfric’s fiercest opponent, Sapphire is a prized warrior in her own right and highly skilled in the sensual arts—in short, Wulfric’s perfect match. A lasting union is unthinkable, but the bargain they strike—to spend one night together, and then part—proves impossible in the face of a desire powerful enough to bring two countries to the brink of war, and two hearts to the point of surrender…

Hers one of her SJ Day stories.

Eve of Chaos

How do you tell Satan that you ran over his hellhound?

Evangeline Hollis has no idea and she doesn’t want to find out. Living with the Mark of Cain—and the two sexy brothers who come with it—is trouble enough. She doesn’t need to borrow more. Too bad Satan is too pissed to oblige her.

Incensed at the loss of his pet, Satan has put a bounty on Eve’s head, and Hell’s denizens are converging en masse. The proliferation of Infernals is complicating Eve’s hunts and creating chaos in her once orderly life. They’ve also brought her to the attention of an overzealous reverend who is certain she’s Jezebel reincarnate.

How can a Mark drafted by God strike a bargain with the Devil? Eve’s about to find out…

Sylvia was going to be here today but well, I’m not sure what happened. There are no Q & A’s today but Sylvia is giving away a tote bag with some books .
