Prelude to a Scandal is the first book in the Scandal trilogy.

This book follows Miss Justine Palmer and Lord Radcliff Morton, the Duke of Bradford. Justine has grown up in Africa with her parents, while her father studied the wildlife and natives’ cultures. Bradford was her father’s patron. After her family returns to England, her father publishes a paper that results in his imprisonment. Justine turns to Bradford to help release him by offering to sleep with him. She’s been fascinated by him ever since her return from Africa. He replies with a proposal of marriage in six weeks time and refuses to see her till then. This leads her to believe the rumors that he has been horribly disfigured. But Bradford has a secret that he’s been hiding from the world. He is a sex addict and has been trying to learn control after his problem caused harm to a woman and led to his scar. As they struggle to find a way to control his addiction and make their marriage work more obstacles are thrown in their way. I don’t want to say spoil the book for any one so I’ll stop there.

I found this book to be refreshing and different from a lot of the Regency romances that are out there. Delilah writes excellently and keeps her readers waiting for more. A lot of people wouldn’t have thought about how sex addicts would live in the time but she did. And some books have the heroine coming from the Continent or America. But she gives us Justine, who was raised properly but in Africa. I definitely enjoyed reading this book. We’re given a different look at the time and in such an enjoyable way. We see that heroes aren’t always perfect and they don’t need to be. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Book Blurb from Delilah’s website:

Marriage is not the end of desire…

Lady Justine is willing to trade her good name, her reputation and her place in London’s gossip-hungry ton to secure her father’s release from prison. But when the notorious Duke of Bradford counters her offer with a proposal of marriage, the stakes grow higher still.

For while the smoldering lord is famous for his conquests, the man is oblivious to both her devotion and her charms. And Justine is soon afraid she has wagered all for naught….
